Assignments

1: Assignments

Assignments allow students to submit work to their teacher for grading. The work may be text typed online or uploaded files of any type the teacher’s device can read. Grading may be by simple percentages or custom scales, or more complex rubrics may be used. Students may submit as individuals or in groups. Assignments are automatically linked to the gradebook in Moodle.

Brightspace

Learners use the Assignments tool to upload and submit assignments directly in Brightspace, eliminating the need to mail, fax, or email their work to instructors. On paper submissions, and observed in person assignments are also available and do not require file submissions to be made in Brightspace.

Instructors use the Assignments tool to create and edit assignments, see users’ submission times, view submissions on the Evaluate Submission page, associate assignments to rubrics and competencies, and return submissions with grades and feedback. Assignments are not automatically linked to the gradebook.

Bottom line

Once you understand how the assignment tool works in Brightspace it is functional. However it does not link to the gradebook automatically – this additional step needs to be carried out by the teacher each time – for each assignment. ePortfolio assignments are not linked either – like in Moodle – so they are not associated with an assignment peice of work.

Recommend that Assignments are created fresh and not imported from Moodle. Link the assignment to the gradebook if you are associating an overall grade to the body of work. Best practice is to do this at the time the assignment is created.
